Welcome to TESOL at MIS

Masters International School offers academic English language assistance services to any students whose first language is not English and are in need of additional language support. Our TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) program provides support both inside and outside of the mainstream classes with a variety of plans to meet the needs of each student. Our program’s objective is to assist ELLs (English Language Learners) in achieving academic English competence so they may work on their own at the appropriate grade level.

How TESOL support works at MIS

Small-Group Instruction

Targeted pull-out sessions with our TESOL specialists, sized to match each learner's stage.

Push-In Support

Language Assessments

Regular WIDA-aligned evaluations chart each student's growth and shape next-quarter targets.

Parent Reporting

Termly progress reports translate ELL milestones into clear next steps for families.

Frequently asked questions

How do you assess my child's language readiness?

Every student whose first language is not English takes the English Proficiency Exam, which assesses speaking, listening, reading, and writing. A minimum score is required to be considered for admission. New and returning students are re-assessed each year to set the right level of support.

Can my child join the TESOL program mid-year?

Yes. MIS runs rolling admissions, so language assessment and TESOL placement happen whenever your child joins — including after the school year has begun.

Is there an extra cost for TESOL services?

No — MIS offers the TESOL program as an extra service at no extra charge. Depending on the resources available each year, we reserve the right to offer this service annually.

How long does language support continue?

For as long as it is needed. Support continues until a student can work independently at grade level in English. Progress is reviewed each quarter and reported to families each term.
