Frequently asked questions
What is the maximum number of students allowed in a MIS classroom?
Class sizes will generally be no more than the following: Kindergarten 16, Grades 1-8 20.
Does MIS have an ESOL (English for Speakers of other languages) program?
MIS will have trained specialists who work with ESOL students, but ESOL students spend the majority of their time in the mainstream classroom, expected to perform alongside their native English-speaking peers. For this reason, all ESOL applicants must pass an English proficiency test before applying and MIS limits the number of ESOL students to a proportion not greater than 15% per grade level.
What are the qualifications for a student to apply to kindergarten?
Foundations applicants must turn three by September 30 and be toilet-trained; Junior Kindergarten applicants must turn four by September 30; Kindergarten applicants must turn five by September 30.
What tests does MIS use as an entrance exam?
The KRA is used for all students applying for Kindergarten at Masters International School. The KRA helps us understand whether a student is ready for the school setting. Masters International School also uses a variety of tests for students who speak English as an additional language and are applying for Kindergarten–Grade 8. We assess English language proficiency in four categories: speaking, listening, writing, and reading.
Is there an application deadline?
MIS operates rolling admissions: we accept and review applications throughout the year — including after the school year has begun — and place students as soon as a suitable seat is available. Applying early gives your child the widest choice of grade-level placement.
What is the appropriate grade for the age of my child?
Foundations: age 3-4 · Junior Kindergarten: age 4-5 · Kindergarten: age 5-6 · Grade 1: age 6-7 · Grade 2: age 7-8 · Grade 3: age 8-9 · Grade 4: age 9-10 · Grade 5: age 10-11 · Grade 6: age 11-12 · Grade 7: age 12-13 · Grade 8: age 13-14. MIS strictly follows a student's birthdate when assigning a student to a particular grade level.
Does MIS provide transportation for students to and from school?
Arranging transportation to and from school is the responsibility of the parent. Many families contract with song-taew and tuk-tuk drivers to provide transportation. MIS provides transportation to and from field trips and athletic events for the participants.
What are the MIS school hours?
Kindergarten through Grade 8: 8:10 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. | Monday–Friday.
